The Defereggental offers the ideal holiday mix in combination with a wide variety of sports. Whether a leisurely hike, an exciting climbing tour up to golf – surrounded by unspoilt nature and silence.


If you want to actively experience winter in the mountains, you will find the perfect conditions for this in the Defereggental. The snow-sure valley in the south offers kilometres of slopes in the family ski slope „Brunnalm“, cross-country skiing trails, winter hiking trails and perfectly groomed toboggan runs throughout the winter.


Ideal conditions for skiing at a snow-sure 1,400 meters altitude. The ski centre St. Jakob in Defereggen is known as the family ski area south of the Alps. Varied slopes, no waiting times and the ideal slopes characterize the ski centre.

Cross country

Perfectly groomed pistes offer the right track for every cross-country skier, whether skating or classic style. A special highlight: Get into the cross-country ski run right in front of our house and enjoy the kilometre-long network of trails.

Ski touring

The Deferegger mountain world attracts with numerous ski tours for all skill levels. Depending on the tour, you will pass one or the other alpine pasture and enjoy the impressive panorama of the surrounding three-thousand-metre peaks.


The toboggan run Alpe Stalle offers fun for the whole family. Whether during the day or in the evening you will be served on one of the two toboggan huts with typical Tyrolean cuisine. In addition, the toboggan run is illuminated in the evening. Tobogganing can be rented directly on site.


The „Defereggental Golf Park“ is located just 1.5 km away in the middle of the beautiful nature of the Defereggental, surrounded by numerous impressive mountain peaks of the Southern Alps. Train your precise game on the attractive 9-hole par-3 golf course with large practice facility and modern, covered driving range.

Cycling, Mountain Biking & E-Bike

Numerous cycle paths lead you along the Schwarzach in the valley. Passing the Deferegger healing water or water adventure trail you can cycle to the largest, closed pine forest in the Alps. Experience the Jagdhaus-Almen and make a detour to South Tyrolean stake over the Klamml-Joch.


The Defereggental offers a fascinating hiking landscape for your holiday. Short varied routes as well as heavy summit tours are possible. Hiking not only relaxes, but can also be combined with exciting experiences. For example, on one of our many thematic paths.   Each of our mountain huts and alpine pastures in the Defereggental valley invites you to stop by with their local specialities.

Climbing & Mountaineering

44 climbing tours in summer are juxtaposed with 30 ice climbing tours in winter. The clear positioning on climbing, mountaineering and hiking is also manifested in the two climbing gardens. Alpine long-distance hiking is also promoted from St. Jakob. No wonder this offer also attracts young climbers. Surrounded by the Defreggengebirge, the Rieserferner Group,the Lasörling and the Schober Group, the valley radiates the original romance that holidaymakers are looking for.

Observation tower in the House of Lords

In the Oberhauser Zirbenwald there is a 22 meter high observation tower,which literally grows out of the forest. Just so much to get a fantastic view of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the magnificent waterfall and the largest closed pine forest of the Eastern Alps with its inhabitants. A few minutes from the Alpengasthof Oberhaus car park, the new attraction stands on the edge of the pine forest. Looking over the treetops, with luck and a little patience, you might see an eagle, bearded vulture, deer, gams or marmot. The tower is perfectly located for this purpose and is part of the National Park Trail in the Oberhauser Zirbenwald

The new play and excursion arena at 2350 m

At the Ochsenlacke near the Mooseralm in the hiking area of the St. Jakob cable cars in the Defereggental there is a new excursion destination for the whole family. The Guardians of Mountain Water Treasures – 5 Oversized Play Equipment:

  2. Anura the Frog
  3. Odo the Dragonfly
  4. Uro the mountain newt
  5. Cinni the Water Blackbird

Directly on the ridge to the small Leppleskofel there is also a spectacular viewing platform. It represents the ark in which the keepers of the mountain water treasures are stranded at the oxen varnish. The observation deck offers a spectacular view of the Deferegger mountains.

Walus Climbing World & Water Nature Playground Sander Level

A climbing experience between the treetops of a special kind awaits you. The climbing park is a high ropes course for the whole family with different levels of difficulty. Uniquely beautifully located next to the water playground, it is located right next to the town centre of St. Jakob in the Defereggental.

The large adventure playground in St. Jakob invites the family to experience common adventures.

Deferegger Healing Water

The new building also serves as a show room and sales room, in which the story of the Deferegger Healing Water is presented. It also serves to fill water directly at the borehole and thus maintain the originality and healing power. Thirdly, the integrated stalactite cave is a special experience for visitors, in which they get the connection to the events in the earth’s interior. The valuable water can also be purchased directly at the site. The building, in conjunction with the well at the drilling site, is a real water experience in the sense of a power place, which can be experienced from different perspectives.
